Friday short form is Fri. Friday is the fifth day in the international standard ISO week. It is the sixth day where the week starts from Sunday. It is the seventh day of the week where the week starts from the day of Saturday. Friday is the day of the week between Thursday and Saturday.
In many countries, Friday is the last and fifth day of the working week. The name Friday comes from the Old English Frīġedæġ, meaning the “day of Frige”. It is also is known that the word for Friday in most Romance languages is derived from the Latin dies Veneris or “day of Venus”.
Friday is very important in Islam because this day is known as the day of worship together as per Islamic teachings. It is also called the day of peace and mercy because this is the day on which God declared it a holy day as well as King of the days due to many significant ways.
A Hadith of the last prophet of Allah Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) in Sahih Muslim describes the importance of Friday as follows.
“Abu Huraira reported the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) as saying: The best day on which the sun has risen is Friday; on it, Adam was created. on it he was made to enter Paradise, on it he was expelled from it. And the last hour will take place on no day other than Friday. [Sahih Muslim Book 7, Hadith 27]”
In the Holy Quran there is one surah named as Al-Jumu’ah meaning is Friday.
In Christianity, Friday is also known as the Christian’s fasting day. There is also Good Friday day for observances like Good Friday is the Friday before Easter. From the Roman Catholic point of view it is forbidden to eat the meat of warm-blooded animals. Only fish is allowed on Fridays. As per Eastern Orthodox Church, they observe Friday as well as Wednesday as the fasting day throughout the year.
In the Hindu religion and culture, Friday is a very important day for the married ladies. On Friday they worship their God on that day.
