Global Positioning System Short Form is GPS
Global Positioning System Short Form is GPS. It is an American-based utility that provides users with navigation, positioning, and timing (PNT) services. GPS is a satellite-based radio navigation system and is used by the United States of America Space Force. This system consists of three segments one is the space segment, 2nd is the user segment and 3rd is the control segment. The U.S. Space Force develops, maintains, and operates the space and control segments.
It is operating for military and civilian usage with global coverage. The accuracy of this system is approximately 3cm to 500cm and this system was first time introduced in 1978. The constellation size of the GPS system is 77 and the satellites available in the orbit are 33.
The space segment consists of a nominal constellation of 24 operating satellites that give the current GPS satellite position and time with the help of transmitting one-way signals. The Control Segment consists of control stations and worldwide monitors that maintain the satellites in their specific orbits through occasional command to adjust the satellite clocks and manoeuvres the satellite. It tracks the uploads of updated navigational data and maintains the health, GPS satellites, and status of the satellite constellation.
